Most of my clients come to me with a political idea and need my help formulating their idea into a cohesive plan of action. I advise my clients on the best structure for their goals and take the lead to file all necessary paperwork with the appropriate state and federal agencies to get set up ASAP.
Lobbyist Setup and Legal Advice
State and Local lobbying rules are sometimes unclear and have multiple triggers that trip people up. I simplify the law so that my clients know exactly where they stand, and if they need to register as a lobbyist, I guide them through the process or do it myself.

Political Law Compliance
The number one way to get an ethics complaint or a fine from the ethics commission is to forget to file your campaign finance or lobby reports on time. I work with my clients to set calendar reminders, create their reports, and double check them for legal accuracy before filing. If the client is a PAC or a candidate, I also work on a monthly retainer to review all political advertising for legal needs and review any questionable contributions that come in.

Unfortunately, groups and candidates sometimes make mistakes and end up with fines or ethics complaints in front of state or local regulators. I frequently represent candidates, PACs and lobbyists in front of the Texas Ethics Commission or any of the many local ethics regulators around the state. My in-depth knowledge of the process and the law serves my clients very well in this process.
In fact, out of a total of over $300,000 in proposed fines my clients have paid an aggregate total of only $3,500 including multiple outright dismissals.

Nonprofit Counsel
Many of my clients are nonprofit organizations that need in-depth legal counsel on the do’s and don’ts on the laws impacting nonprofits, including federal tax law and state campaign finance laws. I work with my clients to establish their goals and set up ancillary organizations if needed to accomplish those goals. I provide board training and a strong background in fiscal sponsorships as well as the interactions between 501(c)(4)’s, 501(c)(3)’s and PACs.
